Product Overview

Variegated Spider Lily (Hymenocallis caribaea variegata)

Variegated Spider Lily is a very attractive plant even when it is not in bloom. Creamy white and green variegated foliage is adorned with white spider-like flowers mid-summer. This variety of Hymenocallis will tolerate more shade than other varieties.

In all but the warmest winter climates bring the pot inside for the winter, place in a sunny spot, and water like you would a regular houseplant until Spring.

Hardiness Zone: 10-11
Planting Container: We recommend a 2 gallon solid planting container or a medium planting bag.
Light Requirements: full sun to part shade
Height: 6-12"  - Spread: 12" Wide
Water Depth: Moist soil only! Do not submerge crown of plant underwater.

FERTILIZING: For best health and growth, we recommend fertilizing regularly (unless using the plants in a plant filtration system!). Use Pondtabbs 20 count, 60 count, or 300 count for fast release, or Aquascape 6 count or 12 count capsules for slow release (once a year) fertilizing. Aquascape is preferred for low maintenance, but Pondtabbs are useful in Spring when Aquascape is slow to start in low temperatures. Pondtabbs are also useful for a quick extra nutrient push for extra bloom, and for mid-summer fertilizing of a new plant (we don't recommend using slow release fertilizer in mid-summer or later in cold climates, as plants should run out of fertilizer at the end of the year to encourage dormancy in cold climates).

Plants are shipped bare root or in starter pots, and will require planting upon arrival. For in depth planting and care instructions visit our Planting and Care Instructions for Shallow Water and Bog Plants.

    Variegated spider lily

Posted by Bonnie Graniero on May 21st 2019

Arrived in good condition, packed well. I planted it immediately, it's in the water and seems to be growing. I ordered this last year in the fall and it didn't make it through the winter--which was fairly mild, so I suspect that it is not too tolerant of cold altho I have the non-variegated variety and it does just fine in the winter.

First time ordering this particular plant. Very happy with the condition of the plant received. Anxious for it to mature and bloom.
