Product Overview

Variegated Society Garlic (Tulbaghia violacea var. 'Silver Lace')

Variegated Society Garlic is a beautiful ornamental plant for the water garden. The long, thin foliage is variegated green and white and gives the plant a silvery appearance. The stems and leaves have a garlic smell when cut or bruised (and yes, the leaves and flowers are edible!). Clusters of lavender-pink flowers bloom all season above the foliage on tall stems. A native plant of South Africa, it is known to help ward off snakes.

While best known as a landscaping plant, society garlic adapts surprisingly well to shallow water in ponds and streambeds.
