Product Description

Curly Leaf Rosette Water Lettuce (Pistia Rosette)

A compact variety of water lettuce pistia with a rosette shape. The velvety, ribbed leaves are ruffled and the color ranges from light green to blue green. Water lettuce prefers some shade in hotter climates and the leaves will yellow if in direct sun. A popular choice for pond owners who have water gardens that are located in shade or part shade. Rosette Water lettuce, like water hyacinth will compete with algae for nutrients and provide shade and coverage. The dangling, feathery white roots provide hiding places for baby fish. Large Koi do like to snack on the roots and foliage, so we advise placing the water lettuce in an area of the pond that is in-accessible to the fish. This floating pond plant needs water temperatures to be 65 degrees to flourish. Rosette Water Lettuce does not tolerate cold water or freezing temperatures. The leaves, when exposed to the cold will turn white and rot away.

  1. lovely healthy water lettuce - ranchus love it! 5 Star Review

Posted by on Jul 25th 2017

This is my second batch of water lettuce from Lilyblooms.

I'm really happy with it all, everything arrived promptly, well packaged and super healthy, with a nice combination of larger and smaller sized pieces.

I use mine for 2x large goldfish acquariums - but these are chunky sized plants with long roots that need a reasonable amount of still water to float on. Ideal for a pond but think carefully if you are using for acquarium purposes, think 40 gallon breeder minimum for 2 /3 pieces.

having said all that - my ranchus LOVE them.

I trim down the roots a little and float several plants within a wooden hoop to keep them away from the filter flow.

The fish spend hours poking around in the roots, popping their heads up between leaves of the plants and generally being incredibly cute.

One tank is near a window that gets alot of natural sunlight and they seem to enjoy having a still shady area, so much so that they keep laying eggs and spawning amongst the roots.
